NZ Prime Minister Visits Hayes
Our Prime Minister, Mr. John Key , visited Hayes this week during his visit to Rotorua. Like many people who visit us for the first time, Mr. Key was both surprised and impressed that one of NZ’s leading exporters is tucked away here! Unlike many other countries, NZ is laid back when it comes to politics, so you will note the complete absence of sunglass-wearing black-suited bullet-catching secret service men. It was an honor to have the leader of our country visit us and stop to talk to many of our staff. Of course I took the opportunity to lobby on a few things …..

Service Level Agreements ( SLA’s )
Responding to many requests from our customers , we are embarking on a program to offer SLA’s on all machines. We have noted that the skills level throughout the rollforming industry is diminishing , at the same time when machinery controls and mechanical complexity are increasing. Not that long ago , each site would have their own maintenance staff that looked after the equipment. The trend these days is to outsource this work , but sadly in most cases, this is outsourced to general engineering companies that do not have rollforming experience.

Hayes has decided to increase our ability to service not only our own, but all manufacturers equipment , and to offer a schedule of programmed site visits tailored to meet each customers requirements. As part of the Bradbury Group , we are the largest manufacturer of rollforming equipment in the world and logically have the most experience to help our customers.

The cost of this service is minimal when considering the flip-side . It always amazes me that equipment that can cost well over $1million , are used in aggressive environments for many years , that earn their owners commensurately millions of dollars of income , get less service attention then the company pick-up truck or the boss’s Mercedes !

We want to ensure our customers get the best from their equipment , and see our SLA’s as one method of helping you do so. Please contact our Service Managers for more information.

Twin Capstan DCM Uncoiler
Our standard 6t or 10t cantilevered powered uncoilers have been the stalwart uncoiler used in hundreds of sites around the globe. Many sites now prefer to use coil-cars to load and unload coils, but this is seeing an increase rather than a decrease in downtime. Most businesses do not run coils fully out: they are run to order and hence part-coils are loaded/unloaded many times a day. Typically 10 coil changes a day is not uncommon (larger sites do over 30!).

Using a coil car to unload/load is fine, but it does not increase productivity one iota: the coil car must remain empty while a coil is running so that it can remove that coil. Then that coil has to be lifted from the coil car, the new one lifted onto the coil car, and only then can the coilcar load the now-empty uncoiler mandrel. All this time the line is not running. Assuming that there is no waiting for a crane,

Change times are rarely less than 15minutes …that’s equates to about 3 hours a day of lost production time! By utilizing a twin capstan uncoiler, the line can be kept running while the old coil in unloaded/loaded on the off-line mandrel. When time comes to change coil, the on-line one is rewound and taped, then at a push of a button, the uncoiler head rotates bringing the new coil on-line. Downtime will be less than 5minutes, meaning a saving of at least 2 hours a day!! More in higher volume sites.

The payback on these robust, easy to maintain, reliable units can counted in months not years. Please contact us for further information …the time to act is now (before your competition does!)

KEEP ROTORUA BEAUTIFUL AWARD
Mike Lowe - Managing Director accepted an award on behalf of Hayes from the Keep Rotorua Beautiful organisation.

In their acknowledgement, they recognised that in driving around industrial estates, it is rare to see clean and tidy factory environs. They complemented all Hayes staff for keeping the site litter free, and for keeping the green areas and trees that are so lacking in other sites.

This is just the start for Hayes improving our site cleanliness and overall efficiency.
